Hello Sunshine, Oh my goodness living in the middle of a remodel! Know before you ask, it is a have-to job. We put it off as long as possible(5 years).
Our house started being built back around 1890’s. Room by room over the years it has grown. We have had the rest of the house completely remolded and added 16 feet onto the backside.
We are looking at about two more months until all the work is completed. If you have remodeled or even added on… Oh my goodness. Some days it seems that it is taking forever and other days I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
The plan is to have everything finished by the time school starts in the fall. I believe the worst part of the remodel is the sanding of the drywall. It does not matter how much you prepare for the dust it goes everywhere. The white powder goes throughout the entire house.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. The drywall dust is the main reason I did not push the project before but there came a time when I had to put my Big girl panties on. Yes, I will enjoy all the new space that we are creating.
The stairs are supposed to go in this week. I have looked at so many color charts for paint. I pick out set of colors for each room only to be met by my loving husband’s comment of ‘really, that color’. Note to self. I have the final say in the room’s color.
We have narrowed the floor covering choices. There will be ‘NO’ carpet. The question is do we lay it down or do we pay a professional to do it right? I vote professional.
During a remodel or an add on a family either grows together or completely falls apart. We have come through these great and small remodels stronger. But tested with each new task.
Have you added onto or been through a remodel? What task did you find more trying?
P.S. Hopefully our last one:)
Hi, Charlene. I am a retired teacher who used to paint houses in the summer. The absolute worst part of painting is all the prep work, especially all of the sanding, so your remodel comment reminded me of that.
I just checked out your blog and see that we share many of the same interests. After 31 years as an elementary teacher, I want to contribute something meaningful to our community during retirement. Thanks for your work as a CNA and your work in hospice. I volunteer by reading to seniors in assisted living twice a week, and I’m in involved in our local children’s author festival. As travel director, I’m in charge of getting 25 authors/illustrators here for our event later this month. While they are here, they will vist children at over 60 schools in the county. I’m working on children’s novels in retirement for the age I spent much of my career teaching (5th-6th grade). That was always part of the plan, but I first wrote a combination memoir/advice book about my career called They Call Me Mom.https://www.amazon.com/They-Call-Mom-Difference-Elementary/dp/1977200052
My wife and I just returned home after spending time with our four month old grandson. (First and perhaps only one). Unfortunately, our son and daughter-in-law live 2,000 miles away, but we can always hop on a plane.
